On March 11, Sustainable Claremont celebrated the opening of its new Resource Center. Why should that interest you?
Want to re-landscape your yard but don’t know which plants to pick? Want to retrofit your home but don’t know where to start? Want to teach green activities to your kids? Want to start composting? I’m sure we’ve all been there. It’s hard to start something new when you don’t know where to begin. Let Sustainable Claremont help you with that.
Or do you have a vision — perhaps a bold, ambitious, innovative one that needs funding — something that might be part of an integrated proposal to make our area more environmentally, socially, or economically sustainable? Such an integrated proposal could be attractive to major funding centers. It has been in elsewhere, why not here?
Do you or your organization have information on what you are doing relating to a sustainable environmental, social or economic future we might help publicize?
Sustainable Claremont has opened a Sustainability Resource Center, located in the Lenz Horticulture Building at Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden, to support such things and help make Claremont a leader in sustainability.
The Sustainability Resource Center will be like a hub where people and organizations in the community can get and share information and resources on a wide-variety of sustainability topics — a place where we can work together to make a shared vision a reality. Alexis Reyes, our Sustainability Coordinator, staffs the center.
The center strives to integrate sustainability practices among residents, students, organizations businesses and the city. The center’s aim is to promote awareness of and support a wide variety of initiatives, from water conservation to waste reduction and energy-efficiency to ultimately make Claremont a more sustainable community. The center will feature information from Sustainable Claremont’s Action Groups as well as other sustainability-minded organizations and businesses around the area.
The center is open to the community Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Stop by to ask a question, pick up a brochure, register for a workshop, share your vision, propose a project or simply to say hello. All are welcome!
