Along with the marvels of modern civilization have come inefficient energy use and a resultant increase in carbon dioxide release into the atmosphere. There is general agreement that the increase in greenhouse gases is exacerbating global warming and that we must address this issue immediately if we are to avert disaster. Changes in our sources of energy, a reduction in energy usage and an increase in our efficiency of usage are all necessary. The Energy Action Group is concerned with all aspects of energy use.
Current Project: Sustainable Claremont is joining with the League of Women Voters and Oxfam to present a forum on climate change issues on June 20 at the Alexander Hughes center. This will feature Bill Patzert of NASA (a climate change specialist) and Celeste Cantu, General Manager of the Santa Ana Water Development Agency. Following their presentation there will be a discussion with the audience of what can and should be done to address these problems. Lobbying key Congressional Representatives in support of effective climate change legislation is another aspect of this project.
